The UTMB Department of Family Medicine was founded as an independent department in 1971 but existed prior to that as a division of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health. Family Medicine (FM) faculty provide medical care to Galveston County residents through its three clinics, located on the UTMB Galveston campus, on the western end of Galveston Island, and in Dickinson, Texas, and through its inpatient service at the Jennie Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Additional services are rendered at the Gulf Health Care Center nursing home and the Galveston County Health District's Coastal Health & Wellness. At present the Department includes programs in medical student education, residency, faculty development, and research.
Family Medicine Faculty: This position will be 90% clinical and 10% administrative and will see patients in the clinic primarily at our Galveston Island locations. He/she will provide direct patient care and will provide teaching and supervision of Family Medicine residents. This physician may share on-call responsibilities, including evening and weekend hours, precept medical students and cover other clinical services as needed. He/she may provide comprehensive health care with enhanced access for patients within a patient-centered medical home clinical model. This faculty will have 90% clinical effort and practice primarily at the Island West Clinic (IW) but will also rotate through the Island West (IE) or Dickinson Family Medicine Clinics as departmental need arises.

Candidate Requirements:
- M.D. or D.O. degree.
- Board Certification or Board Eligible in Family Medicine.
- A strong commitment to research, patient care, medical student, and resident education.
- U.S. Citizenship or Employment Authorization to work in the U.S.
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted state of Texas Medical License.
Compensation: A generous base salary is offered and is based upon Academic rank and experience with an obtainable RVU bonus program. Additional benefits include a relocation allowance, a superior family benefits program and an unsurpassed state retirement program.
